NOTES
This object demonstrates that Asian art was an important source of inspiration for artists and designers in Europe and America in the late 19th century. The shallow space and asymmetrical placement of the birds, branches, and clouds painted on this ceramic bottle show the simplification of form that Western artists learned from Japanese prints.
