NOTES
A dapperly dressed hunter, rifle in hand and hound at foot, is framed by dense trees, flowers, and foliage in this printed furnishing fabric. Designed by Raoul Dufy around 1918, La Chasse, or the hunt, is based on a woodcut print made by the artist nearly a decade earlier. The pattern’s angular stylization and overall flatness reflect Dufy’s interest in 15th-century medieval woodcuts, as well as the work of 20th-century European painters like Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne.
