NOTES
The blurry bars of this digitally printed textile reference kente, a prestigious cloth composed of individually woven strips of fabric from the Akan culture of West Africa. This pattern, called Aswan after the city in Egypt, is part of a larger collection of textiles designed by celebrated architect David Adajye for Knoll, Inc., an American furniture and textile design firm. Drawing upon historic African textiles and his extensive travels across the African continent, Adjaye aims to find a “modern condition,” or production process, for a variety of handmade construction techniques and natural materials.
