NOTES
Printed from seven lithographic stones, White Target exemplifies Jasper Johns’s love of process, repetition, and the history of line and gesture. One of his earliest experiments with lithography, White Target is printed on a thin sheet of black Japan paper that is adhered to a sheet of French Canson paper, a process known as chine collé.

Johns was an American painter, printmaker and sculptor who was very interested in philosophy and psychology and is an important figure associated with the Pop Art movement. He is known for his use of targets, flags, maps and other instantly recognizable symbols.
