NOTES
A jumbled pile of statuary fragments, lyres, and amphora create the dynamic pattern of this printed linen fabric. Following European designers of the 1920s and 1930s, St. Louis-born designer Victor Proetz drew upon classical antiquity to create modern, highly luxurious interiors. SPQR, this furnishing textile’s title, is an acronym for the Latin phrase Senatus Populusque Romanus, which means “The Senate and the People of Rome.”
