NOTES
This ancient covered jar is decorated with dabs and drops of deep blue applied in a spontaneous fashion. The vessel's mottled appearance is a departure from other ceramics of the era which often display more balanced and proportioned forms. The splashes of color heighten the exotic and rare quality of the covered jar since the mineral used to make the intense cobalt blue color was a costly import to China from Samarkand over the Silk Road.
