NOTES
This print’s repeat, or the distance between the start and finish of its motif, is detectable at first glance. A dark band runs horizontally across the fabric every two and one-half feet. While this overlap might have been considered a flaw by some, Finnish textile manufacturer Marimekko wisely embraced the inevitable variation of flatbed screenprinting. In the 1960s, the printing process at Marimekko was relatively simple. Plain fabric was draped over long printing tables. Two women, carrying a large silk screen, made their way down the length, repeating as necessary with any additional colors or layers of pattern.
