NOTES
Wide silk ribbons line the pouch of this bag, setting off a central panel of beadwork. The artist wove this panel and the strap separately then sewed each to the whole-cloth bag. In the Ojibwe language the word for this type of bag is gashkibidaagan, based on gashk- (attached together) and -bid (tie it).

This work is exceptional for its complex design and color. Note, for instance, intricate variations between tabs at bottom.

[1] Item number 08-01 on the Streett collection inventory is a “BANDOLIER BAG – 35” . . . 2 large yellow Xs with vertical arrows in orange & green on mid blue bkgrd. Bag sides have drk yellow and black ribbons Straps have mid blue bkgrd w/ crossed arrow feathers motif in alternating drk blu and orange. Bag has 10 beaded drops with wool tufts.” The inventory lists the source as JP and the acquisition date as Feb 12, 2008. Per a phone call between Elizabeth Streett and Alex Marr on June 1, 2021, JP in the Streett collection inventory stands for Jim (James) Piekarczyk.
