NOTES
Here, Francis Frith focused his attention on the outer court of the Temple of Isis at Philae, constructed around 360 BCE. The island of Philae was the site of a significant complex on the upper (southern) cataract of the Nile River, containing temples from early Egyptian and Nubian eras and later Roman buildings. This temple structure was relocated in the 1960s due to the construction of the Aswan Dam on the river and subsequent flooding. Frith made a significant impact as both a photographer and publisher of his own work and that of others.
