NOTES
This photograph of an ancient Roman temple in the city of Nîmes in southern France reveals a particular approach to the depiction of architecture. Édouard-Denis Baldus intentionally removed the surrounding context, through both cutting out and painting on the negative, to isolate the building and emphasize the proportions of its design.
