NOTES
Under Napoleon III, Éduard-Denis Baldus was commissioned to document the construction of a new wing of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. He adopted a flat-on perspective, much like an architectural elevation drawing. The result is rigorously geometric with bands of windows and alternations of rough and smooth stone filling the picture. Only a small strip of sky and a shallow space in front of the building with construction debris gives a sense of space.
