NOTES
Seen from behind with her face in slight profile, Gowin’s wife and lifelong subject Edith looks out over a watery landscape. This close-up perspective serves as an invitation to join her private moment of contemplation. Gowin’s camera tenderly records the fabric of her sweater, the graceful line of her neck, and the strands of her tied-back hair–all modulated by the play of grays. His family images carry a quiet emotional weight that comes out of the deep connection between Gowin and his subjects.
