NOTES
Hanging on vines, large leaves overlap and cascade downward against a stone wall. Their every vein and curl is sensitively captured by Strand’s camera. This elegant image was taken in the garden of his house outside of Paris. During the last years of his life, with failing eyesight, Strand returned to the subject he explored with such passion in the 1920s. In fragments of the natural world seen up close, he creates complex images celebrating nature’s order and beauty.
