Art Speaks: Reinstalled Galleries for Oceanic Arts at SLAM
Join cocurators Nichole Bridges, the Morton D. May Curator of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, and Philippe Peltier, former head and senior curator of the Oceania and Insulindia unit, Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, as they explore a few recently reinstalled artworks from Melanesia, Papua New Guinea, and Polynesia. They will highlight selected masks and sculpture from the newly reopened galleries, discussing how these arts fostered community identity and cohesion.
This virtual program will take place via Zoom and will include opportunities for participants to ask questions with the Q&A feature. Attendees’ mics and cameras will not be activated. This event will have automated closed captions.
Attendees must register to receive the Zoom link. Capacity for the live program is limited.
A closed-captioned recording of the program will become available on the Museum’s YouTube channel and website in the weeks following.
