In Conversation: Hannah Klemm and Kahlil Robert Irving
Members of the Contemporary Art Society and Friends of African American Art are invited to a conversation between former associate curator of modern and contemporary art Hannah Klemm and internationally recognized contemporary artist Kahlil Robert Irving, whose work will be featured in the upcoming exhibition The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century.
Based in St. Louis, Kahlil Robert Irving’s practice examines a wide range of topics, such as digital media, memory, race, and Black life. Working in ceramics, painting, printmaking, and digital processes, Irving takes an almost archaeological approach by incorporating found objects and images to create complex, layered assemblages, often composed of replicas of everyday objects and traces of our digital- and media-driven world. His work is rooted in a deep understanding of art history and his own prolific practice. Irving is a curator and avid collector, and he will also discuss art history, the contemporary art world, and what collecting means to him.
Registration is required. RSVP before March 17 to 314.655.5390 or collectors.circle@slam.org.
Complimentary garage parking
