In Conversation: Ian Weaver and Cleo Thomas with Elizabeth Wyckoff
Friends of African American Art are invited to attend a conversation between artist Ian Weaver; Museum trustee, collector, and donor Cleophus “Cleo” Thomas Jr.; and Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs Elizabeth Wyckoff.
Weaver utilizes a variety of media that act as metaphors. One of his many ongoing projects revolves around a fictional group, the Black Knights, inspired by the artist’s interest in both medieval heraldry and Black activism. The Black Knights fight for the survival of their community. One of Weaver’s works was recently donated by Thomas and is currently on view in New to the Museum: Prints, Drawings, and Photographs. In the past year, works of art from Thomas’s family collection have also been exhibited at various institutions. Weaver and Thomas will talk about their backgrounds and what brought them together.
Registration is required. RSVP before May 5 to 314.655.5390 or collectors.circle@slam.org.
Complimentary garage parking
