A dazzlingly original and ambitious book about the history of female self-portraiture, The Mirror and the Palette introduces readers to a cross-section of women artists who illustrate that there is more than one way to understand our planet, more than one way to live in it, and more than one way to create art about it. 

Using these themes as a jumping-off point, Torbert and other Museum curators will examine how women are depicted in works throughout the Museum.
