From Hello Kitty to Maneki Neko! Join guest author and SLAM alum Rhiannon Paget as she dives into her newly published book, Divine Felines: The Cat in Japanese Art.
Whether lurking in corners or taking center stage, cats are a ubiquitous presence in Japanese art, often beckoning fortune, inspiring reflection, and unveiling realms of magic. Featuring works from over 30 museums and institutions across the world, Paget celebrates the rich symbolism and surprising stories surrounding the feline image in Japan.
Rhiannon Paget is curator of Asian art at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and former SLAM Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellow for Japanese Art.
