Member Lecture—Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz: American Modernism’s Toxic Power Couple
Member Lectures are available exclusively to Museum Members. Join today!
Welcome back guest lecturer Bradley Bailey, associate professor and director of the art history program at Saint Louis University, for an inside look at the dynamic relationship between Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz.
O’Keeffe’s bold, unmistakable vision made her one of the most celebrated American artists of the 20th century—but her rise to fame was shaped in no small part by Stieglitz, the photographer and pioneering gallerist who championed her work. Their love affair, equal parts passionate and stormy, unfolded alongside their shared commitment to modern art in America.
Join Bailey as he traces their artistic and personal entanglement—from Stieglitz’s early exhibitions of avant-garde European and American artists to O’Keeffe’s later status as a feminist icon. Along the way, discover how their influence reshaped the art world for generations to come.
