Member Lecture—Guercino: Storytelling in Baroque Italy
Member Lecture and Book Club events are available exclusively to Museum Members. Join today!
Marvel at Baroque masterpieces with Judith Mann, senior curator of European art to 1800, and Clare Kobasa, associate curator of prints, drawings, and photographs—and celebrate the opening of the exhibition Guercino: Storytelling in Baroque Italy.
Join Mann and Kobasa to explore the work of Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, known as Guercino, one of the most accomplished painters of the Baroque era. Through vivid color, dynamic composition, and emotionally charged scenes, Guercino brought stories to life with remarkable energy. With a focus on his richly imagined subjects and narratives, discover how the artist developed his ideas from preparatory drawings to finished paintings.
This lecture is part of a daylong Member preview celebration of Guercino: Storytelling in Baroque Italy. The exhibition will be open to Members only from 10 am to 9 pm on Thursday, September 16. View the full celebration details here.
