Explore with guest lecturer Dr. Bradley Bailey
Examining American Realist Thomas Eakins’s The Fairman Rogers Four-in-Hand and French Impressionist Edgar Degas’s Galloping Horse, Dr. Bailey will discuss the artists’ fascination with photography and the influential work of photographer Eadweard Muybridge.
Learn how Eakins and Degas were introduced to these photographs on two different continents and how Muybridge’s cutting-edge investigation of the horse in motion is central to these important works in the Museum’s collection.
Bradley Bailey, PhD, is an associate professor of art history in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Saint Louis University.
