Opening Lecture—Art and Imagination in Spanish America, 1500–1800
With luminous paintings, divine sculpture, intricate tortoiseshell-inlaid furniture, and gilded silver chalices, this exhibition showcases a gorgeous display of Spanish American art from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In an opening lecture, Saint Louis Art Museum curators will introduce the exhibition and explore how the region developed complex artistic practices that drew on Indigenous, European, Asian, and African art.
