Opening Lecture—Picturing Independence
Celebrate America’s creative spirit on Flag Day with Amy Torbert, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Associate Curator of American Art.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Torbert will offer an inside look at Picturing Independence, an exhibition exploring how artists have captured the ideals and symbols of a nation. Discover more than 30 works—spanning 1770 to 2018—from the Museum’s collection, including silver by Paul Revere; paintings by Benjamin West and George Caleb Bingham; and prints by Jacob Lawrence, Marisol, Fritz Scholder, and Norman Akers.
