Public preview of Age of Armor: Treasures from the Higgins Armory Collection at the Worcester Art Museum
The Higgins Armory Collection at the Worcester Art Museum is the nation’s second largest collection of arms and armor, including more than 1,500 objects ranging from ancient Egypt to 19th-century Japan but with particular strengths in suits of steel armor from medieval and Renaissance Europe. Age of Armor: Treasures from the Higgins Armory Collection at the Worcester Art Museum presents highlights from this collection in a major survey of defensive armor in Europe from its origins in the 1300s to today.
Celebrate the opening of Age of Armor with drinks and entertainment in Sculpture Hall and free tickets to the exhibition. Visit the galleries to see the exhibition for yourself, and at 6 pm hear Jeffrey L. Forgeng, curator of arms and armor and medieval art at the Worcester Art Museum, discuss highlights of the exhibition in an opening lecture in SLAM’s Farrell Auditorium.
- Age of Armor is open exclusively to Museum Members on Thursday, February 16, and Friday, February 17, until 4 pm.
- The free public preview of the exhibition begins on Friday, February 17, at 4 pm, and last entry is at 8 pm. Tickets to see the exhibition during the public preview are available on-site only.
- Cocktails are available for purchase from 4 to 8 pm in Sculpture Hall.
- Harp player Eileen Gannon, violinist Brien Seyle, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Pace will play early music from 5 to 7:30 pm in Sculpture Hall.
- Fantasies in Steel: The Age of Armor, a lecture by Jeffrey L. Forgeng, begins at 6 pm in SLAM’s Farrell Auditorium. (This lecture is sold out.)
