Scandinavian Design and the United States, 1890–1980

Friends of American Art and Design Members are invited to a special lecture given by Monica Obniski, curator of decorative arts and design at the High Museum of Art. Her lecture will explore the design exchanges between the United States and the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden over the course of the 20th century. Obniski will unpack several themes that contributed to the robust exchange, including migration, educational opportunities, diplomatic relations, and consumption.

The exhibition was cocurated by Obniski and Bobbye Tigerman, the Marilyn B. and Calvin B. Gross Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where the show is on view until February 5, 2023. It will then travel to the Milwaukee Art Museum, where it opens on March 24, 2023.
