Sing Noel! Christmas Music from the High Renaissance
As part of SLAM’s Festive Fridays celebration, Early Music Missouri will perform a free concert of holiday music from the High Renaissance. The program celebrates the Christmas season with vocal and instrumental music ranging from Gregorian chant to High Renaissance motets.
Free tickets will be available for this concert in person at the Museum starting at 10 am on the day of the performance. Tickets are available at the welcome desk in Taylor Hall.

About the concert
The program celebrates the Christmas season with vocal and instrumental music ranging from Gregorian chant to High Renaissance motets. The vocal repertoire includes Tomás Luis de Victoria’s O magnum mysterium, Josquin des Prez’s Ave Maria…virgo serena, an 8-voice Magnificat by Luca Marenzio, and additional seasonal motets by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and others. Early Music Missouri’s Renaissance band features a wind consort of recorders and dulcians as well as early strings and lutes. Instrumental music on the concert includes works by Andrea Gabrieli, Ludwig Senfl, Samuel Scheidt, and others.

About the performers
Early Music Missouri began in 2018 with informal concerts. The group has since grown to become an important part of the region’s musical life, presenting concerts, workshops, master classes, and lectures regionally and nationally. Concerts feature Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical repertoire played on instruments (originals and reproductions) from these eras. Using historical documents and original musical scores, and guided by modern research, performances reflect a historically informed approach to technique, interpretation, and performance.
