About the film

Jacques Tati directed, cowrote, and starred in this 1967 satirical comedy film. The costly production was on an enormous set using 70 mm film. The expense contributed to the film being a box-office failure, but it has later been considered by many critics and film historians to be one of the greatest films ever made. The movie-review site Metacritic assigned PlayTime a score of 99 out of 100, based on 19 critics, indicating “universal acclaim.”
