The Garage Lab Performance: Cheeraz Gormon
Cheeraz Gormon is a cross-genre writer, multimedia storyteller, and public speaker whose work spans the art forms of poetry, essay writing, photography, film production, music, and advertising. She is a community-centered social entrepreneur and helping professional devoted to the visibility, care, and healing of underserved and marginalized populations.
Located in Sculpture Hall, The Garage Lab by Gary Simmons recalls the structure of a typical suburban garage set up with amps and equipment for band practice. In addition to constructing the garage’s wooden frame, Simmons lined the interior with historic and contemporary concert posters collected over many years from around the world. The digitally altered posters also include nods to the St. Louis hip hop scene.
Created as a space for community interaction, The Garage Lab serves as a venue for live performances by poets, musicians, dancers, and DJs. When the space is not being activated by performances, video playback of previous productions will be displayed on a nearby monitor.
