Virtual Program: New Discoveries in African American Art at the Saint Louis Art Museum
With Amy Torbert, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Assistant Curator of American Art
Friends of African American Art members are invited to join Amy Torbert as she shares new research discoveries about 24 previously unrecognized and unresearched Black artists represented in the collection of the Saint Louis Art Museum. In 1938 these young artists created the 39 paintings now at SLAM at the LeMoyne Federal Arts Center in Memphis. It was funded during the Great Depression by the Work Projects Administration. Join us to learn more about these exuberant works of art, how they came to the Museum, and their artists’ stories.
Registration is appreciated. RSVP before September 14 to 314.655.5390 or collectors.circle@slam.org. Online instructions will be provided at the time of registration.
Collectors Circle programs at the Saint Louis Art Museum are presented by the Betsy and Thomas Patterson Foundation.
