Currents 111: Steven and William Ladd: Scouts or Sports?

Brothers Steven and William Ladd collaborate on large-scale installations grounded in their shared memories of growing up in St. Louis. Their complex, richly crafted and autobiographical works reference events and experiences that occurred in their childhood home, grade school, and high school. In Scouts or Sports?, the brothers present a group of ambitious new works created from found objects that recall two of the Ladds’ childhood extracurricular activities, Cub Scouts and sports, revealing the emotional and psychological significance of these activities on their home life.

The exhibition includes a primary installation in Gallery 250, as well as interventions inspired by their family and domestic experiences, located in the Alexandria and Charleston period rooms.

Steven and William Ladd, who live and work in New York, have been featured in solo exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum, Water Mill, NY (2014-15) and the Mingei International Museum, San Diego, CA (2014). They have also participated in group exhibitions at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY (2014) and the Corning Museum of Glass, NY (2012-13).
