This exhibition occurred in the past. The archival exhibition summary below describes the exhibition as it was conceived while on view.

Armed with sketchbooks, St. Louis artist Charles Ferdinand Wimar traveled up the Missouri River in 1858 seeking encounters with Native peoples. Encounters along the Missouri River is based on the two sketchbooks he filled on this trip, and complements the recent installation of Native American works in the adjacent Gallery 322.

Co-curated by Elizabeth Wyckoff, curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs, and Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Mellon Fellow in Native American Art, it will be on view in Gallery 321 from June 29, 2013, to January 19, 2014.
