This exhibition occurred in the past. The archival exhibition summary below describes the exhibition as it was conceived while on view.

Mother Earth, Father Sky: Textiles from the Navajo World presents fourteen historic and contemporary textiles that offer views into the rich tradition and major art form of the Navajo people. This installation is an opportunity to see Navajo textiles as timeless works of art and embodiments of Navajo concepts of art, beauty, divinity, landscape, and place.

Weavings on display include blankets and serapes, saddleblankets, and sandpainting textiles from the Classic Era, as well as a new acquisition for the Museum, a contemporary tapestry by noted artist D.Y. Begay.

Mother Earth, Father Sky is co-curated by Jill Ahlberg Yohe, assistant curator of Native American Art, and Zoe Perkins, textile conservator.
