The Saint Louis Art Museum is among only a few art museums in the United States dedicated to presenting Oceanic art to the public. The strength of the Museum’s collections of art from this region of the world is art originating from Papua New Guinea.

To commemorate Papua New Guinea’s independence from Australia on September 16, 1975, the Saint Louis Art Museum is honored to participate in Wan Bel: A PNG Collective Global Exhibition.

Wan Bel is a yearlong global collective exhibition that celebrates Papua New Guinea’s cultural heritage through a network of some 40 international museums and a central digital platform on the occasion of the country’s 50th anniversary of independence.
