Amy Torbert, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Associate Curator of American Art, joined the the Saint Louis Art Museum in 2018. A St. Louis native, Torbert received a doctorate in art history from the University of Delaware, a master’s degree in the history of art from Williams College and a bachelor’s degree in art history from Hollins University.
Research for Torbert’s dissertation, which studied depictions of the American Revolution, was supported by fellowships from the American Antiquarian Society, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, The Huntington Library, John Carter Brown Library, Lewis Walpole Library, Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Terra Foundation for American Art and Winterthur Museum Garden and Library. Torbert has held curatorial fellowships in American art at the Harvard Art Museums, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Yale University Art Gallery.
