Featuring free concerts, tours, gallery activations and art-making activities throughout the museum during the afternoon and evening, Festive Fridays runs weekly through Dec. 27.

The Festive Fridays event series will feature several collaborations with local nonprofit performing groups, including the Bach Society of Saint Louis, Black Tulip Chorale, Confluence Chamber Orchestra, Early Music Missouri, the Saint Louis Wind Symphony, St. Louis Classical Guitar, St. Louis Irish Arts, Town and Country Symphony Orchestra, Vox Una Youth Chorale and music ensembles from Washington University in St. Louis.
Festive Fridays will also include an ornament art-making station and cash bar with winter-themed drinks in Sculpture Hall every Friday evening. SLAM curators will lead brief Seasonal Spotlight talks in the galleries each week, focusing on different winter-themed artworks, and on Nov. 29, a matinee showing of the movie “The Wiz” is scheduled.
No tickets or reservations are required for any of the Festive Friday programs. Festive Fridays are made possible through the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
Also returning this season are two annual SLAM traditions. Winter Celebrations will take place Dec. 14 and 15, and Kwanzaa will be celebrated on Dec. 28.
Winter Celebrations is a free, community-centered celebration of the season. Inspired by holiday traditions from around the world, the family-friendly festival features different performances and family art activities each day. Weekend highlights include a traditional Indian dance performance by the Radhanika Dance School, excerpts from “The Nutcracker” by the Dance Center of Kirkwood, a musical performance with Gateway Music Outreach Community Youth Orchestra, a Mexican dance performance by Alma de Mexico, story time with the Saint Louis Public Library and a larger-than-life snow globe ball pit. No tickets or reservations are required to attend Winter Celebrations.
The museum’s annual Kwanzaa Celebration has been one of the region’s largest Kwanzaa events for more than 20 years. The event’s theme is “Abakobwa ni Abanyembaraga: Limitless Power and Potential.” The phrase, in the Rwandan language Kinyarwanda, translates to “girls are powerful people.” The free event will honor the resilience of woman athletes at the Olympics and will include self-guided tours, an art-making activity and a performance in The Farrell Auditorium. SLAM’s Kwanzaa Celebration is presented in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Saint Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter.
