Exhibition catalogue published 2023

This book presents a fresh view of the paintings of Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell, two of the most experimental painters of the 20th century. Mitchell’s compositions, with vibrant color, and gestural brushwork, enter into a dialogue with the paintings of Monet. The exhibition catalogue assembles twenty-four paintings, twelve by each artist, and examines the intense closeness to nature of these two artists and the ways in which they addressed similar subject matter and techniques. The paintings are primarily drawn from the spectacular collections of the Museé Marmottan Monet and the Fondation Louis Vuitton, along with two works from the Saint Louis Art Museum.
