NOTES
In this mixed-media drawing Eva Hesse, who is known for her organic shaped sculpture, reacts to the mathematical precision and cold fabricated materials of Minimalist art by creating a slightly off-kilter grid of small hand-drawn circles. She creates texture with densely woven graphite marks and viscous passages of opaque white gouache, a water-based paint, which she scrapes into with the handle of a wooden paint brush.
