NOTES
Protestors in favor of voting rights for African Americans march on the roadway from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Moneta Sleet Jr. arranges the photo to show the physical obstacles these determined demonstrators faced. Walking through the rain, some of the marchers are covered with plastic while a few others hold umbrellas. The road extends back into the image, with a hill on the horizon. In this way, Sleet refers to the real and symbolic uphill journey the protestors endured.
