NOTES
In this image groups of visitors are dwarfed beneath the enormous coffered dome of the Pantheon, one of Rome’s most famous landmarks. Through his large-scale format, Thomas Struth captures the impressive grandeur of this classical interior. This photograph belongs to a series that Struth has taken of people visiting museums and monuments. Although Struth generally does not stage his photographs, he made an exception here by arranging tourists across the vast floor. Visitors gaze around the space, paralleling the act of looking at works of art in a museum.
