NOTES
This elaborate vessel, called a pyx, was intended to hold the consecrated wafer during Mass. It is decorated with the coat of arms of its patron, Pedro Manuel del Belmonte, Bishop of Leon, Zamora, and Compostela. The crucifix and figure of Christ on top are intended to link the wafer, the host that will be received by the person taking mass, with the body of Christ
