NOTES
In this image of the Virgin and Child the artist deftly brings the two bodies together by placing their faces and bodies along one primary diagonal axis, starting at the lower right. Federico Barocci was an early Italian Baroque artist and one of the most ardent representatives of the Catholic Counter-Reformation. He established the prototype for the Madonna seated on a cloud with her hands clasped together around the baby Jesus, as seen in this print.
