Notes:
[1] Labels from The Robert C. Vose Galleries and R.C. Vose Galleries appear on the back of the painting. Upon inquiry, Vose Galleries provided information that the painting was first imported by Seth M. Vose (1831-1910) before 1910. In June of 1910, the painting went to O. Westcott (likely on approval), then to Robert C. and N. M. Vose (Nathaniel M. Vose). In March of 1928, the painting was in a sale, but was returned to Vose Galleries. It went to a couple of different shows before 1932, when it was sold to a private collector [emails from Stephanie Madden, Vose Galleries, LLC, August 18, 2010 and August 25, 2010, SLAM document files].

[2] According to Vose Gallery records, the painting came back to Vose Galleries in the summer of 1936 and sold to J. Lionberger Davis on June 2, 1948 (see note [1]).

[3] The painting was lent by J. Lionberger Davis to the Museum in 1952 [loan entry list dated January 18, 1952, SLAM document files], before being gifted to the Museum in 1957. Minutes of the Administrative Board of Control and the Advisory Committee of the City Art Museum, December 12, 1957.
