Notes:
[1] This is one of six works (12-17:1927) purchased from a traveling exhibition of modern European decorative arts drawn from the Paris International Exposition of 1925. See [Friedman, Marilyn F. "The United States and the 1925 Paris Exposition: Opportunity Lost and Found," in "Studies in the Decorative Arts" vol. XII no. 1 (Fall-Winter 2005-2006): 112-115].
[2] The exhibition was organized by the American Association of Museums to disseminate modern style to manufacturers and consumers in the United States. It traveled to museums in Boston, New York, Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia. In July and August 1926 the exhibition was on view at the City Art Museum. The works were acquired after the tour ended in Philadelphia. It is not known whether the AAM sold the works on behalf of the makers and manufacturers or if AAM purchased the works for the exhibition. See email correspondence with Marilyn F. Friedman and Museum staff dated April 29, 2004 [SLAM document files].
[3] Invoice dated December 3, 1926 [SLAM document files]. Minutes of the Administrative Board of Control of the City Art Museum, January 7, 1927.
