NOTES
A pair of Arab warriors on horseback reach a watering hole while several other horsemen approach through a dusty haze. Adolf Schreyer traveled to North Africa in 1861, immersing himself in Indigenous customs and learning the Arabic language. Schreyer focused on the rich, sparkling color of the warriors’ costumes as well as the finery of their horses decorated with red and blue tassels.
