NOTES
A woman dressed in a kimono stands before a fireplace in this quiet interior scene. Childe Hassam varied the etched lines in this print to capture the different surfaces of the walls, mantel, open fireplace, and folds of fabric. Although best known for his Impressionist paintings, Hassam took up etching in 1915, using the black and white medium to experiment with line, shade, and shadow. In the last two decades of his life he created over 400 prints.
