Notes:
[1] A letter to the Museum from Brame & Lorenceau indicates that the painting was formerly in the collection of Mrs. Adrien Jaubert, who gave it to her grandson [letter dated July 19, 2000, SLAM document files].
[2] Galerie Brame & Lorenceau was preparing a catalogue raisonné of Théodore Rousseau with Pierre Miquel; the project was discontinued after Miquel's death. According to a letter from the gallery, this painting was consigned to them in 1996 by Pierre Miquel "who most likely had it from one of the Jaubert's heirs" [letter dated November 16, 2005 from Sylvie Brame of Galerie Brame & Lorenceau, SLAM document files]. It is not clear whether Pierre Miquel owned the painting at this time, or perhaps consigned it on behalf of the Jaubert heirs. The painting is included in a 1996 exhibition catalogue as lent from a private collection, courtesy of Brame & Lorenceau [Heilmann, Christoph. "Corot, Courbet und die Maler von Barbizon: Les amis de la nature." Munich: Klinkhardt & Biermann, 1996, cat. B123].
[3] See note [2].
[4] Invoice from Brame & Lorenceau dated January 3, 2001 [SLAM document files]. Minutes of the Collections Committee of the Board of Trustees, Saint Louis Art Museum, December 6, 2000.
