NOTES
A monumental bronze figure stands with feet firmly planted and one arm raised—as if to throw a spear or lightning bolt—while the other extends straight ahead. Markus Lüpertz represents a Titan, a god from Greek mythology who, together with his siblings, fought and lost a 10-year battle against Zeus and the Olympian gods. The sculpture has roughly formed features and a craggy texture, which express the brute strength of the Titans. Lüpertz painted a leg and arm of the sculpture in bright green, which resembles an ancient patina, or surface finish, and further heightens the drama of the scene.
