NOTES
This sketch for an installation was inspired by Renaissance alchemy. Rebecca Horn organized her project around the body of a woman, whose round head is depicted above center. Below the woman's head, Horn drew a pool of mercury, which is an alchemical sign of the female spirit. At left she drew a sulfur puddle, a symbol for the male soul. At right is a pendulum hanging over a goose egg. Horn wrote at bottom right "controlled by the goose egg," indicating her interest in relationships between female fecundity (the egg) and male impulse (the pendulum). This drawing is the artist's visualizion of the physiological and emotional aspects of human sexuality and desire.
