NOTES
This vase was probably exhibited in the Art Palace at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. The monumental form has extensively modeled and hand-tooled surfaces with Indian portraits and strapwork designs in the style of architect Louis Sullivan. The diaper pattern of fleur-de-lis around body of the vase probably refers to St. Louis's French heritage and the Louisiana Purchase.
