NOTES
Scholar-officials in China used brushpots to store writing and painting brushes when they were not in use. In this example of a spinach-green jade cylinder brushpot, the thick sides are carved with figures and pavilions in a mountainous landscape among clouds. The base is raised on five small bracket feet.
